Life After Treatment

When treatment ends people begin a new chapter in their lives, one that can bring hope and happiness. The fear of recurrence or relapse, however, is common among cancer survivors and can sometimes be quite intense. Follow-up appointments with your doctor and anniversaries of your cancer diagnosis can bring mixed emotions. Although each person with cancer looks forward to getting back to "normal" life, the process can be challenging and everyone deals with these challenges differently.

We suggest two websites that, between them, should be able to help.

CancerBackup
Tel : 0808 800 1234
Web Info Source : www.cancerbackup.org.uk
has an extensive section on their website which includes an excellent section on feelings and emotions. In addition you can obtain a booklet entitled 'Adjusting to life after cancer' by calling their helpline above.

The Cancer Counselling Trust website has an excellent article written by Dr Peter Harvey which addresses the period when treatment has ended and the issues surrounding cancer survival.
Web Info Source : www.cancercounselling.org.uk

In addition there are a number of online forums that you may find helpful (see Other Resources on this website) and remember that any of the support groups/national organisations you may have been in touch with are still there to help you during this time.
