About Cancer Journey

History

Cancer Journey was originally developed in order to fill a gap in information provision in Sussex and Kent. There are no central cancer information centres in either county and it was clear from discussions with cancer patients and carers that this was causing difficulties. There followed a wide consultation with representatives from local NHS healthcare providers including specialist nurses, GP's, the cancer networks and other organisations which confirmed that there would be support for an information service.

During development it has become clear that the need for a cancer information signposting service for anyone affected by any type of cancer is national so the database has been developed to include organisations across the country.

Cancer Journey became a registered charity in December 2007 since when the focus has been to raise the funds to develop the website and start the helpline.

The Team

Andy and JaneThe Patron of Cancer Journey is Andy Ripley, former England rugby international, and himself a prostate cancer patient. An all-round athlete, he is also a qualified yachtsman, was World Veteran indoor rowing champion and champion of the World Superstars television series.

The Trustee Board of Cancer Journey incorporates a wide range of skills and experiences including business and financial management, fundraising and events management. Many of the team have experienced their own cancer journey and have subsequently worked to improve cancer services locally.

The founder and director of Cancer Journey is Jane Gambrill (pictured above with Andy). Jane is a theatre nurse who has worked in  the NHS and the independent sector in both clinical and management roles. She developed the project, in collaboration with specialist nurses from the local NHS Trusts, as a result of her experience as a carer.

Our Sponsors

Cancer Journey would not have become a reality without the backing of some very special people, but, unlike a film star at the Oscars, we do not intend naming them all - they know who they are and how grateful we are.

We do however want to say a special thank you to the following organisations for their support:

McIndoe Surgical Centre
The BMI McIndoe Surgical Centre who have sponsored this website.

Pure Creatives for the design and production of our leaflets.

Website

The Cancer Journey website has been designed, developed and promoted online by Zigzag Design based in Brighton, East Sussex.
